Nepal Earthquake 2015

It was with great sadness that New Hampshire Nepali Community (NHNC) received the news about the disastrous earthquake of magnitude 7.8 (Mw) at 11:56 NST on Saturday 25 April 2015, with the epicenter approximately 29 km (18 mi) east-southeast of Lamjung, Nepal, and the hypocenter at a depth of approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) which claimed thousands of lives, and razed houses, schools, roads and Centuries-old buildings in the UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley, including some at Kathmandu Durbar Square. Tremors were felt throughout the country including major tourist destinations like Pokhara, Gorkha, Janakpur, and across the region, with further loss of life in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Tibet. The quake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, killing dozens of climbers. The economic and psychological cost of this unfathomable natural disaster is insurmountable.

NHNC expresses our most sincere condolences to family members of the victims and the entire people of our motherland who mourn and grieve over the loss of thousands of lives and the missing of numerous people due to the natural disaster.

At this hour of grief and mourning in our motherland, NHNC requests all its members and friends of Nepal to provide financial assistance for immediate rescue and relief operations to reduce and alleviate the sufferings of the affected victims in Nepal.
